Fre-KID-ly asked
questions
It’s a common question. Children experience various challenges, and it’s essential to recognize when professional support is necessary. Trust your instincts and seek guidance from teachers, friends, and pediatricians.
Therapy costs can vary based on:
- Required Service – Therapy session, Assessment, Parent-Teacher teacher Conference, Etc.
- Mode of session – In-clinic, On-the-Go (Home Service), Online Teletherapy
- seniority of therapist.
It’s essential to discuss fees and payment options upfront.
We provide Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy, plus Learning Support, through in-clinic, THINK-On-the-Go Home sessions, or Online Assessment and Teletherapy.
The frequency of sessions varies. Some children benefit from weekly sessions, while others may need more or less. Discuss this with the therapist and developmental pediatrician to find the right balance.
Therapists may work directly with your child, involve family members, or even collaborate with teachers. Understanding the team approach ensures everyone is on the same page.
Regular updates are crucial. Ask about progress reports, feedback sessions, and ways you can support your child’s growth outside of therapy.
Patience is key. Some improvements may be gradual, while others might be noticeable sooner. Consistency and collaboration make a difference.
Therapists set goals with measurable outcomes. Regular check-ins help track progress. You play a vital role in supporting your child’s growth.
Resistance is common. Seek advice on gently encouraging your child to participate without causing stress.

Speech Therapy
Speech therapy may sound like it only addresses how clear or understandable someone talks, but it can actually help many aspects of communication and even feeding. Below are areas a Speech-Language Pathologist assesses and treats, as well as some common questions related to them.
Receptive and Expressive Language
Does your child understand what you’re saying? Is he/she able to identify words or concepts? How does he/she try to communicate with you? Can he/she follow instructions?
Cognition
How is his/her memory? Does your child solve problems independently? Can he/she pay attention?
Speech/Articulation
Can you understand your child’s speech? Can others? Does your child typically use one speech sound in place for another? (Ex. “Wabbit” for “rabbit” or “tup” for “cup”) Does your child frequently shorten or simplify words?
Fluency
How smooth is your child’s speech? Does he/she stutter? Does he/she seem to have difficulty getting words out?
Voice
Is your child’s voice frequently hoarse? Does it sound too nasal?
Swallowing
Does your child eat or feed like his/her peers? What types of food can he/she eat? Does he/she cough upon swallowing?
Traditional Speech Therapy is definitely important and helpful, but these specialized approaches can further tailor your child’s program to his/her strengths and needs.
PROMPT
Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets, is a tactile-kinesthetic approach to speech therapy that uses touch cues to guide individuals with speech production difficulties. It involves manually guiding a client’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) to help them learn correct movements for speech sounds.
See how it works here:
Alternative / Augmentative Communication
AAC bridges the gap between a person’s limited speech and his/her communication needs. This may be used temporarily (until expressive language becomes functional), or permanently. Our Speech-Language Pathologist assesses many factors when determining the best system to use. These include the child’s cognitive and motor skills, contexts within which AAC will be most needed, support available, etc.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy enables a person to meaningfully participate in activities of daily life. This might look different for different people, and in different stages of a one’s life. For kids, this usually involves skills needed at home, in play, or in school. An OT assesses what these skills are and how they are performed. Therapy can focus on developing them , modifying how they are done, or even identifying adaptive equipment/technology to execute them more easily or successfully. Below are some areas an OT looks into and treats, as well as some common questions associated with them:
Behavior
Is your child able to finish tasks? How does he/she react to change? Does he/she get angry a lot?
Sensory Processing
Is your child too “hyper”? Does he/she crash into things all the time? How does he/she react to loud sounds?
Visual Perceptual Skills
Does your child mistake similar looking letters for each other? (Ex. “p” as “q” or vice versa) Can he/she find a specific item even when it is mixed with other things in one location? Can he/she copy words or pictures?
Fine Motor
Can your child pick up and hold small toys or objects? Does his/her hand tire easily when writing? Can he/she move each finger independently?
Gross Motor
Activities of Daily Living
Physical Therapy
Pediatric physical therapy supports children in developing and improving their movement, strength, and functional abilities, often through play-based and individualized approaches. It addresses a wide range of conditions, from developmental delays and neurological disorders to orthopedic injuries and genetic conditions.
Below are areas a pediatric physical therapist assesses and treats, along with some common questions related to them.
Gross Motor Skills
Can your child roll, sit, crawl, stand, or walk as expected for their age Does your child run, jump, or climb with ease? Are there movements your child avoids or finds difficult? Is your child able to participate in sports that he likes?
Balance and Coordination
Does your child have trouble balancing when standing or moving? Is your child clumsy or do they trip and fall often? Can your child hop, skip, or use stairs without difficulty?
Strength and Endurance
Does your child tire quickly during physical activity? Can your child lift, carry, or hold objects as needed? Can your child keep up when playing physical games with peers?
Gait and functional mobility
Can your child safely navigate crowded or uneven environments, such as parks or school hallways? Does your child have difficulty transitioning between sitting, standing, and walking during daily routines? Can your child walk safely and comfortably around the house or playground? Is your child able to move between rooms or different surfaces (carpet, tile, grass) without difficulty?
Some approaches:
Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT)
A hands-on approach that helps children with neurological conditions (like cerebral palsy) improve movement patterns and postural control through guided practice and feedback.
Therapeutic Play
Incorporates games and activities to motivate children and make therapy fun, while targeting specific motor skills and functional goals.
Adaptive Equipment and Orthotics
Assessment and recommendation of devices such as braces, walkers, or wheelchairs to support mobility, safety, and independence.
Motor-learning based skills training
Motor learning approaches in pediatric physical therapy emphasize the child’s active engagement, individualized task challenges, and meaningful practice contexts to promote lasting improvements in motor skills and functional independence.
Learning Support
Learning support focuses on helping children overcome challenges related to cognitive, behavioral, and developmental skills. It integrates techniques from occupational, speech, and physical therapy to enhance learning abilities, improve focus, and develop essential life skills. Therapists tailor interventions to each child's needs, using structured activities, sensory integration, and individualized educational strategies to foster academic success and overall development. The goal is to create a supportive environment where children can thrive in school and everyday life.

THINKids provides comprehensive patient assessments to identify each child's unique developmental needs and future therapy requirements.
